Fracture and trauma management focuses on saving life first, then stabilizing and restoring function. When a patient presents with trauma, the immediate priority is resuscitation following ATLS principles-securing airway, ensuring breathing, controlling bleeding, and stabilizing circulation while protecting the spine. Once the patient is stabilized, a systematic examination is done to identify all injuries.
Fractures are breaks in bone that can be closed or open, simple or complex. Management usually involves reducing the fracture (aligning the bone), immobilizing it with plaster, splints, or traction, or fixing it internally with plates, screws, or rods depending on severity. Open fractures need urgent cleaning, antibiotics, tetanus protection, and often staged surgery.
